The tape clicks on and the tricycle rolls out of the dark. Billy the Puppet is a figure model kit from Julles Modelado that puts Saw's messenger exactly where he was first seen — pedalling into a flooded, half-demolished room, head cocked, waiting for someone to look up.

The Room at the End of the Tape

Julles Modelado has built this one as a scene rather than a standing figure, and every part of it is doing work. Billy sits upright on a full-sized child's tricycle, hands closed over the grips and both shoes on the pedals of the great spoked front wheel; the trike is its own little sculpt, down to the bell on the bars, the sprung saddle and the ribbed rear step. The puppet himself is all hard edges and hinges: a smooth domed skull with a blunt bob of hair, deep-set eyes ringed like targets, spiral discs carved into both cheeks, and a jaw that hangs loose off the face on its own hinge. He wears a proper little suit — notched lapels, buttoned shirt, bow tie, cuffed trousers, sneakers — with the wrinkles pushed and pulled exactly the way cloth sits on a mannequin instead of a person, and a small cassette recorder swings from a strap across his chest. Behind him stands a broken tiled wall, split down a ragged edge with rebar poking out of the concrete and a pipe running up the corner, and the reverse of that wall is a second face entirely: Billy's head carved in deep relief among gears, pipework and a riveted SAW plate, so the piece reads from either side. A dead CRT television lies tipped on its side in the rubble at his back wheel, a human skull sits in the debris beside it, and the whole scene rides on a round riveted platform hung with chain and stamped with a nameplate. It is a proper project — a lot of separate subassemblies, a lot of clean flat panels to weather, and a face that will reward careful thin glazes for anyone building a shelf of collectible resin figures and premium resin models.
