Every crypt keeps a caretaker, and this one has been waiting a while for company. This figure model kit is a portrait bust of the Crypt Keeper, sculpted by Julles Modelado, and it leans in close: a grinning, half-mummified ghoul in a coarse shroud, head tipped down and one clouded eye rolled up at whoever just disturbed him. He looks delighted to see you, which is by far the worst part.
A Grin Sculpted Wrinkle by Wrinkle
Nearly the whole sculpt is face, and it earns that. The cranium is broad and bare, mapped with fine creases and long scar-like seams that run back over the crown, and the skin below it is pulled tight enough to show every ridge of bone. The brow overhangs deep sockets, one lid drawn back from a blind, clouded eye. The nose is gone to an open cavity. The cheeks have collapsed inward against the teeth, leaving a wide, uneven grin of exposed gums and crooked, gapped teeth with a folded, sagging throat hanging beneath the jaw. Long, lank hair falls from behind notched and pointed ears in heavy carved strands, past the shoulders and clear of the head, so every strand keeps its own edge under a brush.
Below the neck the piece stays just as considered. A loose shroud drapes across both shoulders in soft folds, its open weave sculpted thread by thread and its hem left ragged where it breaks over the chest. The bust seats on a round column plinth, banded at the top and foot, with weathered skulls set in relief around the drum and worn, uneven stonework between them. It is a small, self-contained shelf piece with a genuinely nasty personality, and the wrinkles, the weave and the stone each take paint in a completely different way.
