A hermit named for the mountain, and the monkey who owns him. Girish and Bandar is a figure model kit from Kuton Figurines: a weathered old ascetic sitting patiently under the weight of a companion who has climbed up, settled in, and started grooming his hair without asking.

The Lord of the Mountain and His Monkey

This is a bust that tells its whole story through two faces and four hands. Girish is sculpted as a lifetime of weather — a deeply lined brow, hollowed cheeks, heavy folded lids over a long steady gaze, and a magnificent beard that falls in separated, rippling strands well down his chest, with the same long hair swept back off the temples and pouring over his shoulders. He wears a simple robe draped open across the chest and gathered in soft vertical folds, and two strands of round prayer beads hang at his throat, knotted at the centre. Above and behind him, Bandar is the best kind of counterweight: a long-limbed monkey with a ruffed mane, a calm almost thoughtful face, and a beautifully observed coat of layered, flicked fur running down the back and haunches. One long-fingered hand rests flat on the old man's head, fingers curled into the hair; the other presses down on his shoulder to take the weight; and the tail loops out behind in a long curling S across the back of the bust. It all sits on a classical flared pedestal with a stepped square plinth, which frames the pair like a museum piece. Real sculptural craft, and a striking centrepiece among collectible resin figures and premium resin models.
