A mask with nothing behind it. This figure model kit distils Hellboy (2004)'s silent assassin down to the part that unnerves people most — the Karl Kroenen portrait bust, sculpted by CA 3D Studios, brings Ladislav Beran's clockwork killer up to eye level and lets you look at a face that refuses to look back.
A Study in Cold Discipline
Cropped at the chest, the bust puts every interesting decision within a hand's reach. The lensed mask dominates it: two blank circular plates where eyes should be, a fluted breathing grille across the lower face, and delicate hinge and strap fittings running back beneath a peaked cap trimmed with braided cord. A scarf wraps the throat and disappears into a collared shirt, and below that the uniform is laid out with quiet precision — a buttoned tunic with flapped breast pockets, a diagonal cross strap buckled over the chest, and a heavy greatcoat slung across the shoulders with its collar standing. It terminates on a stepped classical plinth, so the piece presents like a museum portrait of a man nobody ever saw. For collectors of premium resin models, the smooth mask against the leather, wool and metal around it is a painter's problem worth having.

He never raised his voice and never needed to. Give Kroenen the plinth and let the mask do the rest.
