Some cats choose a lap. This one chose a head. Moki & Wasabi is a figure model kit from Kuton Figurines built around one perfect stand-off — a small girl trying very hard to look dignified while an enormous long-haired cat sits on top of her like a crown and refuses to be discussed.
A Cat, a Crown, a Truce
The whole appeal of this bust is in the two expressions, and Kuton Figurines has sculpted them as a matched pair. Moki looks straight ahead with her chin level, mouth pressed into a small resigned line, blunt bangs cut heavy across the brow and two loose bunches of hair breaking into soft curled tips at either side; a round mark sits on each cheek and her collar is a rolled, slouching turtleneck that bunches under the jaw. Above her, Wasabi has flowed into position — a dense, deeply combed coat of long fur, tufted ears, whiskers picked out one by one, eyes narrowed to satisfied slits over a stubby muzzle showing the tips of two small fangs. The cat's forepaws hang down over the girl's shoulders and rest there in perfect ownership, its body wrapping the back of her head, and its magnificent plumed tail sweeps down behind the shoulders and coils around the foot of the base. That base is a clean, classical turned pedestal with a stepped disc foot, which keeps the whole thing display-ready and gives the fur somewhere dramatic to fall. A small piece with a lot of character, and a fine change of pace on a shelf of collectible resin figures and premium resin models.
