Every piece of Larry Talbot's ordinary evening is still on him: the woven work shirt with its buttoned flap pockets, the plain leather belt, the trouser cuffs turned up over feet that are no longer a man's. The face is pure classic monster makeup, a swept-back crest of fur over a heavy brow, a broad muzzle, and a mouth caught open on bared teeth. Behind him a dead tree claws at the sky, and at his heel a small campfire still burns beside a fallen log, the last human thing left in the clearing.
