Small, Wrinkled, Ready to Go
The pose is the whole character. He stands wide with his weight shifted back, both padded mitts up in front of his chest in a fighter's guard, head tipped forward under a topknot of hair drawn up into a point and two more tufts blown out sideways over enormous wrinkled ears. The face is a masterclass in creases — hooded eyes squeezed almost shut, a ball nose flanked by two round cheeks, and a sly closed-lipped grin spreading most of the way across it. Diklich Art has quilted the smock in fine ribbed corduroy, run a line of pompom buttons down the front and over both shoulders, patched it with stars, and gathered the sleeves and trouser cuffs into deep ruffles above a pair of flat ankle boots. The plinth keeps pace with a star placard, bulb studs and a squiggle of piping chasing round the rim. A small piece with an enormous amount of surface, and the sort of face that makes collectible resin figures worth painting slowly.
