The Crimson King waits on a throne built from skulls. This figure model kit from Vyra Studio brings the great antagonist of Stephen King's The Dark Tower into three dimensions, drawing on Michael Whelan's painting of the character for a hooded, skeletal king at rest among the dead.
A Throne of Skulls
He sits deep in a heavy hooded robe, the hood drawn forward so the grinning skull beneath sits half in shadow. One gnarled, deeply lined hand is raised to his chin in thought; the other rests easy on his knee, and the robe falls in long folds to pool across the base at his feet. Skulls are stacked up both sides of the throne's high back, and each armrest is crowned with a cluster of tall candles, their wax running down over the skulls below. Beside him stands a staff topped with a spiked skull and hung with a braided cord ending in a bone. A heap of broken boulders climbs one side of the throne, more candles gather at its foot, and ragged drapes hang over the edge of a round, flagstoned base ringed with skulls and marked at the front with a spiked emblem. The back of the throne is worked in overlapping scalloped plates, so the piece holds up from every side. Figure, throne, staff and base are split into separate sections for printing and assembly, and the parts render shows the full breakdown.
