Rooted, Flowering, Entirely at Ease
The giant is the landscape. Roots and creepers run down his back and lace across his shoulders, tight clusters of small flowers grow at his neck, wrist and ankle, and a stand of enormous trumpet-shaped leaves rises straight out of him on thick stalks - the whole canopy is part of the figure, not scenery behind it. The face is the best work on the piece: a heavy creased brow, deep-set eyes, long pointed ears and a jaw of blunt upward tusks, with a slender pipe held to the lips in one huge hand. Below him, settled back against his leg, his companion lies with her eyes closed, a small cup and saucer balanced in one hand and her own pipe raised. Kuton Figurines seats the pair on a rough rock outcrop, and the difference in scale between them tells the whole story without a word of help.
